What is it about : Miss Marple, Sherlock, Poirot, and Detective Columbo move over, meet our Jimm Juree from the deep Thailand South, a love lorn reporter who has eyes on handsome Thai men of all professions. Gifted with the knack of coming up with the Eureka moment before her cast of colorful local characters of a ex-brother-now- ladyboy sister, a queer sheriff, absent minded mother and criminals and gangsters who long-laughed like typical cartoon villains, had a chance to even realise a somewhat-plausible Case was on.
Some thoughts after having read the book : The Author's turn of phrases came with wit and humour - on checking a mysterious sound at night - my night vision is remarkable, I eat a lot of carrots; on hearing a sound next door - it was a sound you get used to living with two brothers and a granddad, it was clearly a fart. A person of no substance would be described by the author as a fritter without a banana. Another good one - you are not even on Wiki, it appears you grew up in the pre-web era. The description of the old German lady deserves a mention too - she had cheek bones that made her head looked aerodynamic. Also, the sporadic mentionings of Clint Eastwood having interests in Jimm's cases as potential blockbuster screenplays, added much amusement in the book.
Would I recommend this book to you : So much enjoyment. So many laughters till eyes watered. Please go read at your first free moment - cases all written with flair and creativity mixed in with that rural and village charm and warmth from the Thailand south and a tinge of the love-hungry heart from a lonely girl detective. The intriguing murder cases profiled by Jimm will go a long way, I look forward to reading her other exploits. BTW1, my personal favourite cases in this book - The Zero Finger Option and of course Sex On The Beach, a mystery and murder case with all those beachy ingredients of cocktails, drunken backpacker western girls, cut up bodies, guns and drugs. What more does one want？BTW2, the author has a good command and excellent choice of seldom used volcabularies, here are a few, go look up, see how many of these you know and amuse yourselves - Semolina, Bordello, Pterodactyl, Somnolent, Mowgli, Quasimodo, Ambergris, Malfeasance, Abattoir.
